Our collaboration on “The Accent” brought together creativity, cultural insight, and the expressive power of animation. Set against the backdrop of a multicultural society, “The Accent” explores the beautiful complexity of cultural differences and the misunderstandings they can sometimes create. It is a story grounded in empathy, one that addresses insecurity, identity, and the journey toward acceptance.
Through this project, Keyowa blended 2D animation, character design, and storytelling to illuminate the emotional depth behind the narrative. Our team approached the work with sensitivity, capturing the nuance of diverse cultures while presenting the characters in a warm, engaging, and visually compelling way.
A Story With Purpose
Following Caroline Smalling, a friendly, math-savvy 7-year-old, readers are invited into a world where curiosity meets cultural discovery. When Caroline meets Funke, the new girl in class, she is puzzled when Funke refers to her as “Carorine.” What begins as a misunderstanding unfolds into a beautiful story of friendship, acceptance, and seeing the world through another lens.
As Caroline and Funke navigate their diverse backgrounds, young readers witness their personal growth, growing into confident, self-aware individuals who embrace their differences. Their story becomes a powerful lesson in empathy, bridging cultural gaps and reshaping how children communicate across cultures.
